Laforet Hills is the name of a secluded farm somewhere in the Midwest. It once belonged to an influential family of French colonists, from which it got its name, but now it is home to the Holy Father, preaching in a nearby town, all alone. Time in Laforet Hills slowly stretches day by day and year by year. Sometimes it seems as if life itself has taken some time out in order to lie down under the crown of a tree and take a break from the endless hustle and bustle. It continues like this until the younger sister of the only inhabitant of the farm suddenly appears. She left her father's house many years ago, without saying a word to anyone, and since then there has been no news about her.
